We set our New Year’s resolutions in January. How crazy is that. In most parts of America, January downright sucks.

It’s cold, snowy, slushy, windy, just plain blah! How is that type of environment supposed to motivate us?

We should really be setting our resolutions in the spring.

The spring is the time for rebirth. It’s the time when it’s comfortable to get outdoors, when the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, when we start to feel alive again.

What is your springtime resolution?

Since you’re here, I’m hoping it has something to do with grilling.

Whether you’re completely new to grilling or your ready to transition from grilling to smoking, Girls Can Grill is here to elevate you to be the best you can be.

Start now, and by the time summer arrives, your backyard bbq party is going to rock the block – or dorm – or apartment complex – or wherever you light your fire.

The most powerful way to become a killer griller

You’ve probably seen the #bbqporn on instagram. You know the pics that have you licking your phones – the to-die-for burgers, the juicy fall-off-the-bone ribs, the steaks with diamond marks almost pretty enough to be an engagement ring.

You can grill those! You can become your own #bbqporn star.

When I started grilling, I was awful. Really, really awful. I mean burnt outside, raw inside awful.

But now, I kill it on the grill. So how did I get to this point?

  • Learn the basics. You can jump into a swimming pool without learning the basics, and hope that you don’t sink. But it’s really a lot easier, if you at least know how to move your arms and legs. My posts on Grilling Methods and getting started with your charcoal grill will give you the basics you need to get started at the grill.
  • Practice. Sounds cliché (and a little boring) I know. But this type of practice is actually really fun. Even if your first burger isn’t amazeballs, it’s still a burger, so it can’t taste that bad. Each time, it will taste better and better. Here are some burger recipes to get you going.
  • Fail. As with anything in life, if we don’t know failure, we can’t know success. If you create a disaster, laugh it off and learn from it.
  • Change Things Up. If you’ve tried grilling a chicken breast five times and you’re still not happy with it, change things up. Try a ribeye or a pork shoulder steak, instead. Give your taste buds a little happy dance of fat. That’ll get you motivated and back on track.

There’s one more tip that you really need

Now that you’ve set your springtime grilling resolution and you know the steps to rock the grill, there is one more tip that will increase your success.

Enlist a Friend. Grilling is so much better with company. Plan a girl’s grill night; pick a different recipe each week; and work through it together. It’s really fun to celebrate your successes with friends and a bottle of wine.
