You don’t have to go without monkey bread on your next camping trip. This Bacon Apple Monkey Bread will have all the campers up and at ‘em.
- Prep: 15 mins
- Cook: 1 hr 15 mins
- Yields: 8 servings
1Heat the grill to 375-400 degrees.
2Using kitchen shears, cut each biscuit into quarters and place in a bowl. Toss with the granulated sugar and cinnamon so each piece is coated.
3Place a 3-quart Cast-Iron Cooker on the grill over direct heat. Add the bacon and cook until almost crisp. Add the apples and cook until tender.
4Turn off half of the burners and make sure the cooker is over indirect heat. Add the butter and brown sugar and stir until melted.
5Add the biscuits. Close the grill lid and cook for about 45-60 minutes, rotating the pan occasionally for even heat.
6Turn out onto a platter and serve warm.
Don’t grill over direct heat or the sugar will burn.
To cook on a Big Green Egg, use the plate setter for indirect heat. Cook time will be 30-45 minutes.
For campfire cooking, cook over indirect heat and use the cooker lid to lock in the heat. Cook time may be slightly longer.
If for some reason you don't feel like grilling, you can cook the bacon and apples over the stovetop and finish in a 350-degree oven for 1 hour.
