You don’t have to sacrifice quality when you go camping. You can enjoy campfire steak. All you need are a couple of skewers.
I’m a huge fan of ribeye, and rarely go camping without a couple in my cooler. Before it’s marshmallow roasting time, I grab two skewers per steak and slide the seasoned meat right onto the sticks. The sturdier the skewers the better.
And be sure to use two. If you use one, the skewer will spin, but the meat won’t.
Hold the steaks over the flames and cook to your desired doneness. Your campsite neighbors will be totally envious.
Instead of skewers, you can also place a grill grate over your campfire. Place the steaks over direct heat for 5 minutes. Flip; cook for another 5 minutes. Move to the outer edges of the grate for less heat and cook to desired doneness.

Thanks,I am trying to learn how to cook meat over a campfire not a bed of coals. Sure charcoal cooking gives an even source of heat. Sometimes there just isn’t time. Sometimes a steak on a stick/skewer suits me just fine. 😀
We just tried this last night and it was AMAZING!!! We did 5 min/side right near the top of the flames but that only got us to about 90, so we poked the fire and made sure we had a nice bed of coals going, and about 2 more min/ side closer to the coals got us to 120-130. We did ribeyes, and they were the tastiest I’ve ever had! Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback.
