Weโ€™ve all been there. Memorial Day Weekend is coming fast, and suddenly youโ€™re hosting the cookout. But between work, kids and just keeping up with life, throwing a party feels more like a chore than a celebration.

Donโ€™t sweat it. With this low-stress Memorial Day menu, you can spread out the work over a few days and still serve up a feast that looks (and tastes) like you had all the time in the world.

Start with Forgiving Meats

Pulled meats are your best friend when you want flavorful BBQ without the stress. Smoke pork shoulder, brisket or turkey breast a day or two before your party. Once itโ€™s smoked and shredded, the pressureโ€™s off.

Fork full of shredded brisket.
  • Pulled pork works great in sandwiches, tacos, or on its own for keto guests.
  • 90-minute brisket is great is youโ€™re really short on time and adds hearty flavor to the mix.
  • Pulled smoked turkey is a lighter option, and equally versatile.

Warm the meat before serving or keep it in a slow cooker on low. Either way, youโ€™ll be ready when guests are hungry.

Cold Sides: Prep Ahead and Chill

Knock out your cold sides the day before and let the flavors mingle overnight. Bonus: no last-minute chopping while guests are walking in.

  • Macaroni salad โ€“ Creamy, classic, and kid-approved
  • Potato salad โ€“ Tangy with mustard or rich with mayoโ€”your choice
  • Pineapple coleslaw โ€“ Sweet, crunchy, and the perfect match for smoky pulled pork
Spoonful of Smoked Chicken Broccoli Rice Casserole.

Hot Sides: Smoke ‘Em Just Before the Party

You can assemble these sides in advance and then throw them on the smoker an hour or two before guests arrive.

Both can go into disposable pans and be smoked alongside your main meat or separately.

Drinks: Keep It Cool and Fresh

Fill a cooler with ice and stock it with soda, sparkling water, beer and chilled white wine. Set out bowls of fresh raspberries, blueberries and sliced white peaches, so guests can dress up their drinks with a little red, white and blue.

A Simple Timeline

Hereโ€™s how to spread out the work:

  • 3 days out: Shop for ingredients and prep your meats (trim, season, refrigerate)
  • 2 days out: Smoke and shred your meat, refrigerate
  • 1 day out: Make cold sides and assemble hot sides
  • Day of: Smoke hot sides, warm the meat, prep drink station

With this Memorial Day menu, youโ€™ll have time to enjoy your own party without sacrificing flavor. Memorial Day should be about gathering, not stressing. This menu lets you do both.
