I have a habit of making already delicious dishes even more sinful. Sometimes, that means adding bacon, but in this case, it means adding whiskey.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey whiskey is a little sweeter than Jack Black because it’s blended with a smooth honey liqueur. As the apples break down, they’ll absorb some of this sweet honey.

pecans toasting in cast iron skillet on grill

This entire recipe is made on the grill, but you could cook it on a stovetop, too.

Start by combining some chopped pecans with flour, sugar, butter and spices to make a crunchy topping.

Toast them up in a 10-inch cast iron skillet on the grill. The butter will begin to melt and blend with the sugar.

Remove the topping, and begin cooking down the apples in sugar, honey whiskey, lemon juice and vanilla.

At this point, you’ll need to move the skillet over indirect heat. This will allow the apples to cook slowly without burning on the bottom.

After about 30 minutes, stir in the thickening ingredients (sugar and cornstarch), and return the pan to direct heat.

Dump on that toasted, crunchy pecan topping and allow it to heat for a couple more minutes.

Pull it off the grill and pile on a few scoops of vanilla ice cream.
