Add a little smoky flavor to your Chex Mix by tossing it in your favorite barbecue rub and cooking it on a smoker or pellet grill.

Smoked Chex Mix.

Chex Mix is such a tasty snack because it’s crunchy and savory. It’s so easy to make. You just mix together a few dry ingredients and then toss them with a buttery sauce.

You can change the flavor of the mix by adjusting the barbecue rub or seasonings that you use. I like to use a sweet BBQ rub like my Pork Rub. For spicy Chex Mix, stir in some chili powder or cayenne pepper.

Ingredients

chex mix ingredients.
  • Chex Cereal: You need 8 cups for this recipe. You can mix and match any of the plain flavors: Corn Chex, Wheat Chex or Rice Chex. If you want a sweeter mix, use the Honey Nut Chex or Maple Brown Sugar Chex.
  • Pretzel Crisps: I like these because they’re flat like the cereal.
  • Goldfish: I like the Cheddar Goldfish, but you can choose any flavor variety.
  • Butter: You’ll need one stick. I use salted Kerrygold butter.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: This is used to make the sauce.
  • BBQ Rub: Use your favorite BBQ rub. You can choose one that is more on the sweeter side or one that is more salty or spicy.
Substitutions: This recipe doesn't include any nuts. You're welcome to toss in a cup of peanuts, cashews or mixed nuts. You can also use cheese crackers instead of Goldfish and pretzel sticks instead of the crisps.
