Make a batch of smoked simple syrup and steep in a mason jar with basil leaves.
Combine the simple syrup, gin, lemon juice and ice in cocktail shaker. Shake for 15-20 seconds.
Fill a tall narrow glass with ice. Strain the cocktail into the glass. Top with club soda. Garnish with a lemon slice and basil leaf.
