I love burgers as much as the next person, but there are three reasons you should grill steak this weekend: Flavor, Budget and Health.
Grill Steaks for Flavor
If you’re going to be grilling for a crowd, you don’t want dried-out overcooked meat. Steaks with higher fat content, such as rib-eye, are pretty forgiving and always crowd pleasers.
Consider the reverse-sear method. With this technique, you can grill your steaks over low or indirect heat until they reach an internal temperature of about 110 degrees. Once the crowd is ready to eat, place the steaks over direct heat and cook them to order.
Grill Steaks on a Budget
If you’re on a budget, there are plenty of cuts that cost less than rib-eye and filet mignon. Consider a skirt steak or a tri-tip, both have moderate marbling and carry a lot of flavor.
For flat iron steaks, I recommend using a marinade. You can buy a bottle of a flavor that appeals to you or you can make your own marinade.
For tri-tip, consider smoking it at about 225 degrees until the internal temperature reaches about 140 degrees. One tri-tip can easily feed 4-6 people.
Grill Steaks because They Are Healthy
A lot of people don’t realize it, but steak is a healthy option. There are actually around 30 cuts of beef that are less fat than a chicken thigh. Flank steak is one of my favorites.
For extra tenderness, marinate it overnight. Grill it for 4-5 minutes per side over direct heat. And slice it against the grain. It’s great on salads or as tacos.
