Weeknight meals can’t get any easier. After an easy overnight marinade, you can grill up tender, flavorful steak tacos in under 10 minutes.
Raise your hand if you’ve bitten into a taco to find tough beef that isn’t bite-tender. Kind of sucks huh? You end up pulling out a mouthful of beef, leaving your shell with nothing but veg.
Aussie grassfed flat iron steaks are naturally more tender, making them the ideal choice for tacos. Marinating them for a few hours adds a pure south of the border punch.
After bathing in the marinade, the steak will grill up fast, just 3 minutes per side for medium rare.
Let the beef shine by keeping the toppings simple. My favorites include fresh onions, red cabbage, lime and cilantro.
Grilled Aussie Grassfed Flat Iron Steak Tacos
- 2 lbs Aussie grass-fed flat iron steaks
- 2 cloves cloves garlic minced
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- juice of 2 limes
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- Mix all of the ingredients in a zip-top bag and marinate at room temperature for 2 hours or in the refrigerator overnight.
Heat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove the meat from the marinade. Grill for 3 minutes per side.
Remove from the grill, and let rest for 10 minutes. Slice the beef against grain.
Serve with tortillas, onions, cabbage and limes.
When trimming a whole flat iron, cut the beef horizontally. There is a membrane that runs down the center of the cut. Removing this membrane ensures that every bite is taco tender.
